Title:Main Title: Sedimentologische Analysen zur Abschätzung der Bodenbildungsintensitäten an einem mehrphasigen Küstenschwemmfächer in der Atacamawüste (Paposo, Nordchile)
Description:Abstract: Hyperarid spaces such as the Atacama Desert occupy a special position in scientific questions. This is particularly true for processes such as the surface development and soil formation. Investigations on a multiphase alluvial fan created several results regarding these proceses. These processes were investigated based on different laboratory methods, just like the estimation of carbonate, grain size analysis and CNS-analysis. Four different generations of alluvial fans (A0, A1, A2, A3) were identified. They have got different times of sedimentation during the Holocene/Pleistocene. Because of that there is the presumption that they also have got different soil formation intensities. The youngest generation is characterized of coarse grain size, little to no organic substance and barely chemical weathering. This looks different with the other generations of alluvial fans. Due to the laboratory results obtained, the oldest generation (A3) can be divided into expired soil formation processes and intensities. There are physical weathering processes because of the finer grain size, the organic substance is the highest of all generations, despite the fact that because of the hyperaridity of the location the values are quite low. The consideration of the results of the pH-value as well as nitrogen does not leave clear conclusions for the distinction. The formation of pedogenic iron oxides (Feo and Fed) is also the most pronounced on the oldest generation. Also, all weathering indices (CIA, CIW) clearly show that weathering and, as a result, soil formation in the A3 generation is the strongest. However, only a relatively small number of samples (n = 34) were evaluated and not all laboratory methods were processed with the complete number of samples.
