Description:Abstract: The photos illustrate the morphological and sedimentary impact of the Jan 2019 precipitation event in N Chile, which induced massive flooding of dry valleys in the Precordillera. Pre- and post-flood images document morphological changes in the middle to lower valley sections. Investigations aim at unravelling fluctuations of morphodynamic activity in the valley, i.e. the interplay of episodic high magnitude flood events and subsequent aeolian deposition. The valley has a rather small catchment area and is interpreted to potentially record local flood recurrence and, thus palaeoprecipitation fluctuations.
