| Description: | Abstract: Geomorphological mapping of an alluvial fan complex provides key insights into landscape evolution and Earth surface processes, particularly in arid high-altitude environments. This study focuses on the arid Altiplano, located between 4,000 and 6,000 m above sea level, where landscape development is shaped by the complex interaction of alluvial fan formation, glaciations, and fluctuations in former lake levels. By mapping and differentiating geomorphic landforms, this research aims to reconstruct the regional landscape evolution under hyperarid conditions and establish a detailed morphostratigraphic framework. Furthermore, the study evaluates the potential of alluvial fan systems as paleoenvironmental archives. Through disentangling signals from alluvial processes, past glaciations, and paleolake highstands, the study provides new insights into Late Quaternary climate variability and environmental change in the central Andes. |
