| Description: | Abstract: Soil organic matter and nutrient contents and distribution in Atacama soils is not well known To deepen our understanding we started with two field campaigns. In 2014 we screened surface soils (0-10 cm depth) of the Northern Focus area for organic matter, phosphorous, and colloid contents. In 2016 we sampled surface soil in a transect in the Southern Focus Area, the Paposo Valley. We were looking for nutrients (phosphorous contents) in desert soil, tracers of past life, i.e. characteristic signals of desert plants in soil, heterogeneity of surface soil organic matter. |
