| Title: | Main Title: C02 - Coastal alluvial fans (geodata) |
| Description: | Abstract: This shapefile contains the polygons of 123 coastal alluvial fans (CAF) between ~20.5°S and 25.5°S along the coast of the Atacama Desert. They were used for geomorphometric analyses by Walk et al. (in press). The CAF were mapped based on satellite imagery (Vivid-Chile, GEO1 by DigitalGlobe and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery) and the TanDEM-X WorldDEM™. Criteria for delimiting the CAF were (i) terrain steps and surface landforms, (ii) sediment colours, and (iii) channel courses (if CAF are confined by neighbouring fans). Only CAF for which the catchment area (watersheds) and streams could be delinieated in an adequate quality based on the TanDEM-X WorldDEM™ (i.a. catchment area >1 km²) were used for analysis and are stored in this file (cf. geodataset "C02 - CAF watersheds and streams (geodata)").
