Title:Main Title: High-resolution WorldView-3 stereo satellite imagery and DEM (Messum – West, NW Namibia)
Description:Abstract: This dataset contains an atmospherically corrected and orthorectified stereo pair of WorldView-3 panchromatic and multispectral satellite imagery from the western part of the coastal alluvial fan system west of the Messum Crater in Northwest Namibia and a 1 m digital elevation model (DEM) derived from the stereo constellation. The imagery has been acquired on the 5th of June 2019 and has a spatial resolution of 0.5 m and 2 m for the panchromatic and 8-band multispectral product, respectively. The spectral resolution covers an 11-bit range; however, the imagery is stored as 16-bit GeoTIFF raster. Due to the lack of vegetation and disturbing anthropogenic structures, the derived digital surface model can be considered a DEM. It is stored as a 32-bit real GeoTIFF. The satellite imagery and DEM are projected into WGS 1984 UTM Zone 33S (EPSG: 32733). Atmospheric correction, georeferencing, stereoscopic derivation of the digital surface model, and orthorectification was performed in Catalyst Professional Version 2222.0.1. For the correction of atmospheric effects neither haze nor cloud masking was performed since none of those conditions affect the specific satellite imagery. The atmospheric effects were modelled using a maritime aerosol type and humidity conditions were optimized by checking the NIR-based MODIS Atmosphere L2 Water Vapor Product by Gao et al. (2015). Besides the Rational Polynomial Coefficients contained in the original imagery, 20 manual ground control points were collected for an optimized geometric correction, based on georeferenced high-resolution satellite imagery from the 5th and 30th of March 2016 provided by CNES/Airbus. The total RMS errors amount to 0.83–0.89 m and 1.02–1.08 m for the panchromatic and multispectral imagery, respectively. The DEM was generated based on an epipolar pair created from both panchromatic images. Orthorectification of the satellite imagery is based on the 1 m stereo-DEM using a sampling interval of 1 and the nearest neighbour algorithm for resampling. The dataset is an accompanied by a documentation containing further details regarding the processing. Gao, B., et al., 2015. MODIS Atmosphere L2 Water Vapor Product.
